Blog Oh One

This is my first official blog!

I doubt I will keep this up, but it's nice to know that there is a place where I can share my thoughts. I was inspired by my friends blog. Check his out, he is a much better writer:
http://gliderlogs.blogspot.com/

My posts (I will not use the term blogs again!) will be much more like rambles, rather than like my friends thoughtful and organized insights.

I must say, the aftermath and results of the '04 election have let me more depressed than I could have ever imagined. I did not expect to feel this way. I am not ashamed to admit that at the young age of 34, this was my first election where I cast my vote. The plight of this country is indeed pervasive. I wonder, as do many in the blue 'educated' states how any one of our fellow Americans could vote any other way, or see things any differently. I want to understand the mindset of these people, but I don't think I ever will until I travel to a red state, sit down with my fellow American, and attempt to have a long and engading coversation. I imagine that their soft brains were manipulated by Christanity - Fundamentalist Christianity...
I understand this is a narrow view, and I would agree with you that it is, but I believe religion was a huge factor in this election.

A friend of mine recently travelled to Kansas. Having been raised by hippies, he is one of the most open individuals that I know. Kansas was an eye opener for him. He said 'God' was everywhere. This, the media, stereotypes I have grown up with are my only real insights into the red states.

Music appropriate for this time, other shit I am listening too, and stuff stuff stuff
One of my favorite bands is TOOL. The lead singer, Maynard James Keenan, formed another band on the side, A Perfect Circle, they released a new album to coincide with the elections. They did a wonderful cover of Imagine by John Lennon. If you are interested in the album you will find it on your own. Interview with Maynard and the video in Real Media Format.

If you are like me, and think that Real is the most evil program ever written, then you will NOT click that link. I commend you.... Download Real Alternative (look for the download link on the left-hand pane)... It is light and unobtrusive. You will like it. Now click that link. If you are lazy, here is the link to just the song in Wndows Media Format.

Hurt by Johnny Cash is such a beautiful and haunting song. What about Jesus, Etc. by Wilco? Try these both if you haven't already.

Where can I get these? Ok, now I am about to get into big trouble... You can get them here: MP3's 1 cent a Megabyte
(If the site appears in Russian, find the English link on the top left corner of the page) This is not a typo. I really mean $0.01 a MB. To put this into perspective... Let's say you wanted to buy the latest Duran Duran album on iTunes. There are 12 songs on the new album. At .$0.99 a song, this is $12.00 out of your pocket. At AllOfMP3.com the same album would cost you $0.69 cents! You ask, but is it of high quality? Yes, I would reply, if not better. The beauty of the site is that they have a large catalog that gets updated all the time AND you can select your encoding format. So the same 12 songs at an encoding qaulity (lame encoder extreme setting) that is considered to be overkill for most users would cost you $0.79 cents. For the newer albums, you can even download in a lossless format. Let me warn you, if you are into music, and don't give a shit about artist rights, then you WILL be addicted to the site. And yes, they do accept PayPal payments. Please don't lecture me. I did not say that I have used the site. I just know that it exists. Also, I work in an industry where my work gets pirated everyday.

GTA San Andreas makes me feel dirty when I play, but I still play, but not in long sessions.

To quote the UK Independent, "How could 53 million people be so dumb?"
